|This is the final day for candidates to file for public office on the county, district, or state levels to have their names printed on the August primary election ballot. |
The filing period closes at 5 o'clock this afternoon at the courthouses for county offices and the secretary of states' office for district and state auditor positions.
As for the legislative districts in our area, there are now two candidates for the open seat of second district state representative. Incumbent Casey Guernsey is not seeking re-election. Filing yesterday afternoon was Mike Waltemath of King City on the Democratic ticket. Filing back on opening day was Republican J. Eggleston of Maysville. Incumbents in the third, seventh, and eighth house districts are unopposed
in either party as of last evening. They are, in order, Nate Walker of Kirksville;
Mike Lair of Chillicothe; and Jim Neely of Cameron. Each is a Republican.
For the open seat as 12th district state senator, Republican Dan Hegeman of Cosby remains the only candidate from either party. Incumbent Brad Lager is term limited.
Eight persons have filed for Sixth District Congressman from northern Missouri setting up two primary election races. Four Republicans seek the position including Incumbent Sam Graves of Tarkio. Others are Kyle Reid of Louisiana (Mo.), Brian Tharp of Rock Port, and Christopher Ryan of Liberty. Three Democrats filed.
They are W-A “Bill” Hedge of St. Joseph, Edward Dwayne Fields of Kansas City and Gary Lynn Crose of Gladstone. Also filing for Congress was a Cameron man, Russ Monchil, on the Libertarian party ticket.
