The “District P” championship game featured the champions of Region 2 (Arkansas) and Region 16 (Missouri) playing for a spot in the national tournament in Overland Park, Kansas, starting on March 18th. It was broadcast LIVE on KGOZ FM 101.7.

North Central, now with a 10-game winning streak and a season record of 17-12, was led by freshman forward Sydnee Rounkles with 20 points. Sophomore forward Samone Redditt added 16 points, freshman center Kayla Oettterer (Ett-er-er) with 16, and Nancy Berwanger, a freshman guard from Princeton, with 14.

The national tournament appearance is the first for the Lady Pirates under Head Coach Jenni Croy, who was an assistant under then-head coach James Arnold when North Central finished sixth in the country in Phoenix, Arizona in March 2007. Coach Croy praised her team's late season efforts during a post-game interview:

North Central struggled early to contain Mid-South center Kierra Adams, who finished with 25 points. However, a second consistent scorer never developed during the game for the visiting Greyhounds:

Other than Adams, the only other double figure scorer for Mid-South was Raquel Williams, with 11 points. Early in the season, Samone Redditt was North Central's best player, but the team struggled to a 4-10 record before Christmas. As the team has surged in the second semester, Redditt has become more of a timely scorer, and rebounder for the Lady Pirates. However, in Saturday's second half, Redditt, an Independence native, scored 14 of her 16 points, showing the way to the win to her younger teammates.

The victory is the tenth in a row for the Lady Pirates, a streak that began after a 20 point loss in late January at St. Louis. Yesterday's game was the first district game played at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton. In 1999, 2003, and 2005, the Lady Pirates played district games in Bismarck, North Dakota. In 2007, North Central won a district game in Bottineau, North Dakota.

Former NCMC Lady Pirate Jillian Palan, now an assistant coach at Highland Community College in Highland, Kansas, will bring her squad to the national tournament, after the Lady Scotties upset Johnson County Community College on Saturday in Wichita, Kansas by a score of 54-52.
