NCMC Lady Pirates Edge Cottey, Close In On #1 Seed

The North Central Missouri College Lady Pirates withstood a strong second half charge from the Cottey College Comets, claiming a 70-65 road win on Tuesday night in Nevada, Missouri.

NCMC led by eight points at the half, but struggled to hold that advantage in the second half, with Cottey eventually tying the game at 60 with two minutes remaining. Freshman forward Sydnee Rounkles, playing with the shot clock running down, hit a game-changing three for the Lady Pirates:

Tom Johnson on the play-by-play call. A jump shot by Jackie Graham gave the Lady Pirates a 65-60 lead, just enough spread to give North Central the win. The victory pushes North Central's overall record to 13-12, but an impressive 6-1 in Region 16 play. A victory on Saturday (2:00 PM at Wentworth Military Academy) would clinch the #1 seed in next weekend's Region 16 tournament for NCMC.

Kayla Oetterer led North Central with 18 points, with Rounkles adding 15, Samone Redditt 12, and Lexi Hope 10 points. Cottey, now 11-11 overall and 4-3 in Region 16, had 20 points from Casey Heger, 14 for Kat Zumalt, and 14 points from Casey Shaffstall.

Saturday's game at Wentworth (Lexington, MO) will be broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7 and www.kgozfm.com, with pregame at 1:45. Next week's Region 16 tournament will be hosted by State Fair Community College in Sedalia.
