Lawson Beats Trenton In Saturday Buzzer-Beater

|Lawson High School's Cole Shobe made a game-winning jump shot at the buzzer on Saturday night, lifting the Cardinals past the upset-minded Trenton Bulldogs 54-52 at the THS gymnasium.|
Lawson continues the move towards what could be the #1 seed in Class 3, District 16, with the seeding meeting for the tournament at Lathrop High School happening later this week. Spencer Wood led Lawson with 15 points, while Brady Edwards tallied 11. Trenton had 13 points from Chris Flowers and 11 from Chase Tolson in the heartbreaking defeat.
The Trenton girls picked up a quality home-court win with a 56-32 decision over Lawson in the opener. Makaila Capeder led Trenton with 13 points, while Whitley Richman added 11, and Ally Ockenfels 10. Lawson failed to put a player in double figures. The win is the second in a row for the Bulldogs over the Cardinals in 2014, with THS having claimed a 36-32 win over Lawson in the Lawson Tournament's third place game in late January.
Both of Saturday night's games were broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7 and www.kgozfm.com, with Dennis Stephenson handling the play-by-play. Trenton's varsity teams will next be in action on THURSDAY night, hosting the Marceline Tigers. Both games will be broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7. Courtwarming activities and the recognition of wrestling senior Layton Harkins will occur between games, with a ballet arts group performing at both halftimes.
