The incidents occurred between January 9, 2014 and January 24, 2014. The reports included the passing of a counterfeit $20 and two counterfeit $50 bills at two fast food restaurants and a grocery store.

Police ask retailers to be diligent in attempting to identify counterfeit currency at the point of sale. This can be accomplished by examining all bills and marking them with a security marker. Criminals often attempt to pass counterfeit currency at retailers with a high volume business in hopes the employee at the point of sale will not take the time to examine the currency.

Anyone with information about counterfeiting or other criminal activity is encouraged to contact the Kirksville Police Department at 660-785-6945, Central Dispatch at 660-665-5621 or anonymously at 660-627-BUST (2878).
