|Grundy County Relay for Life, and things people can do to assist cancer patients and caregivers, were discussed at Thursday's Trenton Rotary Club meeting.|
The Relay for Life has an Hawaiian theme this year. It's called Relay for a Cure. The main events are the afternoon and night of June 7th from 2 until 10:30 in front of the Trenton High and Middle School buildings.
As part of Grundy County Relay for Life activities, businesses will be asked to allow their windows be painted purple to show support for the fight against cancer.
Katie Kinney and Sarah Maloney spoke at the Trenton Rotary Club meeting.
Ms. Kinney encouraged Rotarians to participate in Relay for Life activities, and to make a donation. She said persons can help caregivers and patients by writing letters of encouragement; doing various tasks such as mowing lawns, taking care of pets, washing windows, picking up groceries, and bringing in food. Other suggested assistance includes providing gift cards, paying hospital parking fees, and providing crossword puzzle books.
Sarah Maloney said 72% of funds raised by the American Cancer Society goes to program services and research. The rest is allocated for administration and fundraising support.
