|Several boards of education met, and took action on a variety of topics. Here is a report of those meetings.|
The Princeton Board of Education has offered Superintendent, Terry Mayfield, a 1 year extension to his contract. It extends the agreement through the 2016-2017 school year. Mayfield's salary for next school year is to be determined during the budget making process when compensation for other district employees is determined.
The Princeton District is to have classes next Monday, plus February 21st, and April 17th to make-up time missed because of bad weather.
The Princeton District has been examining the potential for offering more rigorous classes to better prepare students for life after high school.
Princeton plans to enter a team in the Science Olympiad at North Central Missouri College at the end of February. This will be the 1st year Princeton competes in the
Students of the 2nd quarter at the High School are Freshman, Dale Bagley, Sophomore, Maddie Enright, Junior, Sierra Dinsmore, and Ethan Smith. The staff member of the quarter for the Junior and Senior High School levels is Mark Knorr. The employee of the 2nd quarter at the Elementary School is Lori Puls.
Princeton School Board candidates for the April election are Gene Anderson, Karla Meinke, and Nathan Evans. The filing deadline is Tuesday. The terms of Anderson, Stan Johnson, and Dr. Larry Letner expire in April.
The Newtown-Harris School District will hold classes on Monday, plus February 17th, and April 17th to make-up time lost because of bad weather. April 17th will be a half day of school at Newtown-Harris.
The deadline to file for the Newtown-Harris Board of Education elections in April is next Tuesday afternoon at 5 o'clock at the school.
2 of 3 members of the Board with terms expiring in April have filed for re-election. Jack Wells and Chris Gibson are seeking another term on the Board. A 3rd candidate is Joni Oaks. Current Board member, Steve Peterson, has said he does not plan to file for re-election.
The North Mercer Board of Education has offered a 1 year extension to the contract of Superintendent, Dan Owens. It maintains a 3 year agreement. The vote was 6 in favor and none opposed. The salary for next school year is to be determined later.
The North Mercer Board approved a school calendar for next academic year. Classes begin August 18th. The last day of school is May 19th of 2015.
Persons have until Tuesday afternoon at 5 o'clock to file as a candidate for April School board elections. The terms of Julie Graham, Greg Widner, and mike Noe expire in April. Ms. Graham has filed for re-election.
The Laredo School District is working with an insurance carrier regarding a break-in last month in which thefts and damages totaled around $6200. Administrator, Phil Fox, indicated the insurance company has given the go-ahead to make replacements. Fox said a large block of concrete was thrown through a window on the back side of the school building, entry was made, and 8 laptop computers and a digital camera were stolen. Fox also indicated the person or persons went through 2 offices, and milk was taken from a cooler and thrown on walls and the floor. The incident, believed to have occurred around December 20th or 21st, was under investigation by the Grundy County Sheriff's office.
The Laredo Board of Education has accepted the resignation of title 1 teacher, Karen Ceradsky, effective at the end of this school year.
The Laredo Board agreed to continue participating with other school districts in an early childhood special education program cooperative. Laredo will sign a contract covering the next 3 academic years.
Fundraising basketball games sponsored by the Academic Booster Club are the evening of January 24th. They'll involve students, staff members, and parents.
Administrator Fox gave preliminary plans for an 8th grade trip to the Mall of America in the Minneapolis area before the school year ends in May.
Laredo 5th through 8th grade students and staff will receive a chef's salad in place of the regular meal on Fridays on a trial basis. It was a Student Council request.
The Laredo Student Council will have a dance for 5th through 8th grade students from Laredo, Pleasant View, and Chula the night of January 31st from 7 until 9 o'clock.
All 3 members on the Laredo Board of Education who have terms expiring in April are seeking another term. They are Jim Marsh, Jason Meeker, and Stephen Lowrey. The filing period for the April elections ends next Tuesday at the Laredo school.
