Grundy R-5 Beats Milan In Quarterfinals

The Grundy R-5 Panthers rode a hot shooting night from Mason Larson with a ten point victory over the host Milan Wildcats, advancing into the 2014 Milan Basketball Tournament semifinals.

Larson led the Panthers attack with 18 points. Cade Mullenix had 11, and Destin Gann 10 points. Meanwhile Milan, an improved team suffering through some of the "inconsistencies of youth", picked up 20 points from Raul Palacios and 11 from Holden Stallbaumer. The win moves Grundy R-5 into the semifinal round, and a meeting with the Brookfield Bulldogs, on Wednesday night at 8:15. Brookfield moved on with a 57-55 win over Green City on Monday night. Green City and Milan will meet in the consolation semifinals, Wednesday night at 5:45.

The top-seeded Brookfield Lady 'Dogs rolled past Newtown-Harris by a final score of 67-18, with the Green City girls moving past rival Novinger, by a score of 59-45. Brookfield and Green City will meet in a girl's semifinal on Wednesday night at 7 o'clock. Newtown-Harris plays Novinger in the girl's consolation semifinals at 4:30 on Wednesday afternoon.

Tuesday night's quarterfinals from the Milan Tournament will be:

GIRLS at 4:30 PM : #2 Mercer vs. #7 Grundy R-5
BOYS at 5:45 PM : #4 Mercer vs. #5 Newtown-Harris
GIRLS at 7:00 PM : #3 Linn County vs. #6 Milan
BOYS at 8:15 PM : #1 Novinger vs. #8 Linn County
