The State Board of Education will decide this week whether to accept the surrender of 34-year-old Joseph Maddock's license. Maddock was sentenced in November on child molestation charges. He also was ordered to surrender his teaching certificate.

Police say Maddock met the boy in 2012 while teaching third grade at Andrews Academy in Lake St. Louis. Two years later, he persuaded the boy's parents to let him home-school the fifth-grader five days a week in Maddock's basement. He taught the child from September 2012 through February 2013.

Records show Maddock has worked at 10 schools in the St. Louis metro area.
