NCMC Splits Region XVI Contests Against Penn Valley

|The North Central Missouri College Lady Pirates broke a seven-game losing streak, downing Penn Valley 85-70 in the opener of a Region XVI doubleheader on Wednesday night at the Ketcham Community Center.|
The Lady Pirates were able to pull away from a stubborn Scouts team late, missing only one free throw in the second half. Kayla Oetterer led a balanced Lady Pirates attack with 21 points, with Lexi Hope scoring 17, Brooke Parton 17, and Nancy Berwanger 10 points. North Central is now 5-9 on the season, and 1-0 in Region XVI play. Penn Valley falls to 1-7 on the season. The Scouts were paced by 31 points from Octavia Allen and 25 from Danielle Robertson.
The Pirate men found themselves down by double-digits midway through the second half, and despite a spirited come-from-behind effort, North Central had its record fall one game below .500, with a 86-84 loss to the visiting Scouts. The Pirates had trouble slowing down the shooting display of Penn Valley's Julius McCoy, who hit NINE three-point field goals, part of a 34 point effort. Liam Johnson had 17 points and Brian Smith 10 for Penn Valley. NCMC had Jory Woodson with 26 points, Tyrell Thirkield at 20, Xavier Newson with 19, and Tyler Peterson with 10 points
The NCMC basketball teams will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, hosting the John Wood CC Trailblazers at the Ketcham Community Center. The 2 o'clock doubleheader will be broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7.
