Fire Destroys Trailer At Chillicothe

Fire Tuesday night near Chillicothe destroyed a travel trailer being used as a permanent residence.

The Chillicothe Fire Department quoted the owner, Sam Rader of 12971B Livingston County Road 255, as saying he arrived home to find smoke coming from the rear of the trailer. The Fire Department said he attempted to use a fire extinguisher to put out the blaze, but was unsuccessful.

The Chillicothe Fire Department said the travel trailer was fully involved in fire when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters put water on a propane tank behind the trailer to keep the tank cool. Firefighters also shutoff a valve from the tank to the trailer. Firefighters also removed several hay bales from around and under the trailer.

More than 2700 gallons of water were used.

No injuries were reported to people, but there were 2 cats in the trailer at the time of the blaze.

The cause of the fire was unknown. Damages were listed as $20,000 property and $5,000 worth of contents.
