Sporting Park Named New Home For NCAA D-2 Football Championship

For the first time in 28 years, the NCAA Division Two national championship football game will not be played in Florence, Alabama. Instead, the 2014 through 2017 games will be played at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kansas.

On Wednesday morning, the NCAA accepted the winning bid, submitted by the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and the Kansas City Sports Commission. Sporting Park is the home of the newly crowned Major League Soccer champion Sporting Kansas City. The facility is located adjacent to the Kansas Speedway, at the intersection of I-435 and I-70. It has never hosted a football game in its history.
