NCMC Pirates Fall In Wednesday Night Doubleheader

|The North Central Missouri College basketball teams are heading into the weekend with multi-game losing streaks, unable to find the win column against Johnson County Community College on Wednesday night at the Ketcham Community Center.|
The Lady Pirates played one of the best teams in the country in the opener, with Johnson County beating North Central by a final score of 80-55. The win improves JCCC to 11-0 on the season. They are ranked #3 in the country in the latest NJCAA Division Two poll. Nieka Wheeler had 16 points, Timeka O'Neal 14, and Sameia Kendall 11 for the Cavaliers. Brooke Parton had 13 points, Samone Redditt 11, and Nancy Berwanger 10 points for North Central, holders of a three-game losing streak and a record of 4-5.
The Pirate men had the opportunity to grab a win slip through their fingers, as a rebound and basket with 6.7 seconds left gave Johnson County a 78-77 win. The Cavaliers are now 3-8 on the season, while the Pirates, losers in four straight, are 4-6. BiQuavious Sturgis led JCCC in the victory with 23 points, with Preston Oakes adding 19, and Jack Todd 12 points. For North Central, Xavier Newson had 22 points, Tyrell Thirkield 17, and Tyler Peterson 13.
Both of Wednesday night's games were broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7 and www.kgozfm.com. On Friday night, the Lady Pirates host Barton (KS) Community College at 7:30 (on 101.7 FM and www.kgozfm.com). The Pirate men will travel to Lamoni, Iowa on Friday night to battle the Graceland University JV.
