Marceline's Magical Run Ends Against #1 Valle Catholic

The Valle Catholic Warriors, one year removed from a state championship game loss to the Penney Hornets, dominated Saturday afternoon's Class 1 state championship game, beating the Marceline Tigers 41-0 at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.

The game was decided early, with the Warriors scoring five first-half touchdowns (including three receiving scores going from Wood to Basler), to take a 35-0 lead into halftime. A 4 yard scoring run with 3:37 remaining finished the scoring.

The new state champions finish the season at 15-0. Marceline, a team that had a tremendous run to St. Louis, with wins over Salisbury, Milan, Westran, and Hamilton, finishes with the runner-up trophy, and a record of 11-4.

The Maryville Spoofhounds have repeated as Class 3 state champions, winning their 30TH game in a row, 50-28 on Saturday over Seneca. The Spoofhounds finish the 2013 season with a perfect 15-0 record. Lee's Summit West won the Class 5 state title, 51-14 over Parkway Central (Chesterfield).
