|The field maintenance shop Number 14 and the 548th transportation company of the National Guard are planning a promotion to “give back” to the community. |
The project involves collecting non perishable items this Friday and Saturday outside the Trenton HyVee food store. The items will be donated to the community food pantry of Grundy County. A spokesman for the guard said a red basket will be available inside the door at HyVee to collect those items. Suggestions for donation include boxes of stuffing, mashed potatoes, pie crust; cans of yams, condensed milk, pumpkin, corn, green beans, turkey gravy, and cranberry sauce.
Citizen soldiers will be outside Trenton HyVee both Friday and Saturday with an Army truck to receive donations.
In a separate announcement, a coat drive is scheduled Saturday December 14th at the National Guard Armory in north Trenton. Persons needing a winter coat are to stop by the armory from 9 o’clock to 1 o’clock. Scarves, boots and gloves will also be available.
Santa is to be at the armory to visit with children. Hot chocolate will be served.
Persons wanting to donate a new or gently-used coat, boots, scarves or gloves are to call 654-0485 or 359-6934 to arrange for pickup. Items can also be dropped off at the armory. The coat drive is being held this year in memory of Jeff Brown.
Forms to participate in the Christmas for families program can be picked up at the Grundy County office of the children and family services division on Oklahoma Avenue.
Persons interested in adopting a family or child during the holidays or who want more information can call 359-6034 and leave a message.
