|Huntsville, Mo (AP) - Huntsville Police Chief William Stuck, found dead in his home last Wednesday morning, died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen, reports Randolph County Coroner Gerald Luntsford.|
Stuck was at home, which he shared with his daughter, when he died, Luntsford said. An autopsy was underway this morning in Columbia.
"Right now, the only thing I can reveal is that he died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen," Luntsford said. "Why, we don't know. The patrol is investigating the gun and a bunch of other things. Since he was ready to go to work, nothing adds up."
The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control and the Randolph County Sheriff's Department are investigating Stuck's death. Sheriff Mark Nichols said he could not release any details, including whether the case is a suicide or whether Stuck was shot by someone.
"Nothing has really been determined yet," Nichols said.
Stuck's daughter was at home when he was wounded, Luntsford said. Medical help was called, but he died at his home before he could be taken to Moberly Regional Medical Center for treatment, Luntsford said.
Stuck was the president of the Portageville-based Missouri Federation of Police Chiefs. Details about his length of service to the city were not immediately available, but Luntsford said Stuck had been in law enforcement for years.
"He was a good person," Luntsford said, and "would do anything for anybody."
According to information posted on the federation's website, a funeral for Stuck will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Huntsville High School gymnasium. Visitation will take place from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday,December 2 also in the gymnasium.
