|Playing the majority of the game without dynamic junior point guard McKinley Hurley (with foul trouble), the Trenton Lady Bulldogs rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat the visiting East Buchanan Bulldogs on Tuesday night by a final score of 47-41.|
Hurley was saddled with foul trouble for Trenton, picking up three fouls in the first quarter, her fourth foul midway through the third quarter, and fouling out early in the fourth. However, senior guard Madi Trump slid over to the point guard position and did masterful work for THS, scoring 18 points in the comeback victory. Fellow senior Makaila Capeder scored 13 points, with Cassidy Cotton adding seven. East Buchanan, an up-and-coming team under veteran coach Cori Elms, was led by sophomores, with Bridget Merrigan scoring 12 points and Aaryn Hessenflow 11. Trenton's girls are 1-0 on the season, with East Buchanan starting 0-1.
The Trenton JV girls went to 2-0 on the season, winning an early evening game against East Buchanan, 28-20. Whitley Richman had 13 points and 6 rebounds for THS, with Lana Raymo, Jaylen Neff, and Ally Ockenfels all scoring four, and Tenna Roberts three.
The Trenton boys played a strong defensive game against a deep and athletic East Buchanan squad, but could not find enough consistent scoring to grab the opening night win, as the boys from Gower claimed a 52-43 win. Zac Johnson and Ryan Kilgore each scored 15 points for East Buchanan, with Brent Schultz adding 11. Trenton's senior duo of Chase Tolson and Chris Kurtz had strong nights for the Bulldogs, scoring 18 and 16 points respectively, but the rest of the team only managed 9 points total. Trenton is off for the rest of the week, now beginning preparations for next week's Gallatin Tournament, where both Trenton teams will have #1 seeds.
