Earthquake Rattles Bonne Terre, Missouri

BONNE TERRE, Mo. (AP) — It might not have been any great shakes, but if you live anywhere around Bonne Terre, you may have felt the ground shake around a little Monday morning.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a magnitude 2.6 earthquake occurred at 7:22 a.m. this morning. The quake’s epicenter was five miles northeast of Bonne Terre.

In addition to Bonne Terre, other area residents also reported feeling the tremors. No injuries or property damage has been reported, however.

Earthquakes of 2.5 to 5.4 magnitude are quite common with around 30,000 of them taking place annually. While often felt, they only cause minor, if any, damage.
