Police Identify Man Killed By Train In St. Joseph

Police identified the body discovered along railroad tracks on the southern edge of St. Joseph last weekend.

Matthew Ethan Vanvacter, 33, of St. Joseph, was discovered by officers about a block south of Alabama Street, just west of the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and West Valley Street, around 6:30 a.m. last Saturday.

Initial reports stated that the man may have been struck by a southbound freight train. Capt. Jeff Wilson with the St. Joseph Police Department said there was no foul play involved in the incident

No cause of death was listed in the release by police. Autopsy results remained pending.

Mr. Wilson said the investigation was closed Wednesday with no criminal charges.
