|(News-Leader.com) It was a 7-year-old child who called 911 Friday morning and reported both parents dead.|
Springfield police arrived at the East Norshire Street at 5:37 a.m. and found a CoxHealth physician and his wife shot to death — the couple’s four kids were also in the house.
According to details released today police believe Rudolph Fajardo, 35, shot his wife, Stephanie Fajardo, 32, and then turned the gun on himself.
Police say the bodies were found in a bedroom of the home in the Ravenwood South neighborhood.
The children, aged 7, 6, 3 and 1, were not injured.
Police have declined to discuss who is now caring for the kids.
Officials said more specific details would not be made available until the investigation is completed — which could take several months. Officials have not speculated about any kind of motive.
Attempts by the News-Leader to reach family members failed Monday.
Family friend Melissa Heil had told the News-Leader Stephanie Fajardo was a dedicated mother of four children, always full of energy.
Stephanie Fajardo had been a homeroom mother at Disney Elementary and had served on the PTA, Heil recalled. She had just been accepted to an accelerated nursing program at CoxHealth as well.
Though Heil was closer to Stephanie Fajardo, she said Rudolph Fajardo was a generous person who had helped her family
In a statement released Saturday, CoxHealth said Rudolph Fajardo had been employed as a hospitalist since July 2008.
"We are greatly saddened by Friday's tragic events, and our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and families affected," the statement said. "During his time here, Dr. Fajardo was a respected physician. This is a tragic loss for the CoxHealth family."
