Early Morning Fire In Spickard Claims Two Lives

Names have not been released by official authorities. A spokesman from the Trenton department, who said he was at the scene, told us two persons were quote unaccounted for.
Chief of the Spickard Fire Protection District Jesse Richmond said the alarm came in about 3:30 this morning for a fire in a two story brick home on Commercial Street. When firefighters arrived, Richmond said flames were seen shooting from windows on the east and west sides of the upper floor to the structure. He described the home as approximately 100 years old. Assistance was received from firefighters with the Grundy county rural fire protection district, Mercer county fire protection,and Trenton fire department.
In describing the fire scene, Richmond stated the second floor is totally gone with major damage reported to the first floor and basement. All contents were destroyed.
Richmond said firefighters who remained at the scene were in what he called “recovery mode” as of about 9:30 this morning. Equipment, he said, was used to take down some of the brick wall to aid in the recovery mode. Richmond added the state fire marshal's office had two investigators at the scene in Spickard to help local authorities.
As this time, there was no information on where the fire started, nor what the possible cause could be. We'll have more news as the details become available on the fatal house fire this morning in Spickard.
