Milan Wildcats Hammer Putnam County 52-0, Move Into District 6 Championship Game

The Milan Wildcats overwhelmed the Putnam County Midgets on Wednesday night at Cal Hubbard Field, winning 52-0 in a Class 1, District 6 semfinal broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3 and www.kttn.com.

Milan scored early and often, with Aaron Richardson scoring two rushing touchdowns, Tristan Fowler running in a 52-yard punt return for a score in the first quarter, senior quarterback Ryan Kuehn hitting for two touchdown passes in the first half, Kevin DeRyke adding a rushing touchdown in the second quarter, and Jaidyn Watts scoring 72 yards for a fourth quarter score. Junior kicker Raul Palacios hit four-of-five extra points and had a 39 yard field goal for the Wildcats, who improve to 10-0 on the season, and will host the District 6 championship game for the second year in a row. Putnam County, a much improved squad in 2013 under Head Coach Dave Cavanah, finishes 5-6 overall, with a runner-up finish to Milan in the Tri-Rivers Conference, and a district victory last Friday over Fayette.

In Monday night's district championship game, the Wildcats will host the Marceline Tigers, a 28-9 winner at Salisbury last night. Marceline is 8-3 on the season, with losses to Brookfield, Westran, and Salisbury, one of those avenged last night. The game, from Cal Hubbard Field, on Monday night at 7 o'clock, will be broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3 and www.kttn.com, with pregame at 6:30!

In Class 1, District 5, semifinal final scores were Westran 63, Paris 12 and South Shelby 42, Knox County 0. South Shelby travels to Huntsville on Monday night to battle the second-ranked Westran Hornets.

In Class 1, District 7, Wednesday night's final scores were: West Platte 34, Lone Jack 11 and Wellington-Napoleon 26, Mid-Buchanan 21. In Class 1, District 8, South Harrison had its season end at the hands of the East Buchanan Bulldogs, falling in Gower by a final score of 44-22. The Bulldogs will travel to Hamilton on Monday night to take on the Penney Hornets, who walloped Polo in semifinal action, 41-22. Kickoff for the KCI Conference rematch is 7 o'clock on Monday night.

In Class 2, District 8, there were two blowouts last night, with Brookfield shutout by a dominant Lawson Cardinal team, 28-0, while the LeBlond defense was the story at Lathrop, shutting down a powerful Mules attack in a 34-0 win. Lawson will host Bishop LeBlond in the district final on Monday night.

In Class 3, District 8, Maryville and Cameron have set up a rematch of the regular season game won by the Spoofhounds. Maryville stamped its ticket for the district final, beating St. Pius the Tenth 34-14. Cameron won a sloppily played game over the visiting Richmond Spartans by a score of 17-7. Kickoff for the Dragons and Spoofhounds will be Monday night at 7 o'clock in Maryville.
