Grundy County Commission Sets Salaries

|The Grundy County Salary Commission has voted to keep compensation at current levels for elected county offices with new terms beginning in 2015.|
All 8 persons voting decided to keep salaries for elected Grundy County office holders at 100% of the base amount related to assessed valuation. Grundy County's assessed valuation this year is slightly over $120,500,000. That's a long way from the $131,000,000 of assessed valuation needed to increase salaries using the 100% base amount.
The offices with new terms beginning in 2015 following elections next year are Prosecuting Attorney, which has a salary of $45,000, County Clerk, which is paid
$38,000, and Presiding Commissioner which has a salary of $27,000.
The Grundy County Salary Commission meets every 2 years, the year before some of the county offices are up for election. There are 10 members on the Salary Commission. They are the County Commissioners, County Clerk, Collector-treasurer, Assessor, Prosecuting Attorney, Public Administrator, Sheriff, and Coroner. The person elected chairman of the Salary Commission does not vote, except to break ties. Prosecuting Attorney, Christine Stallings, chaired the Salary Commission meeting Tuesday. Sheriff, Rodney Herring, did not attend the meeting. The other 8 members of the Salary Commission voted to keep compensation at current levels. They are Commissioners, Rick Hull, Gene Wyant, and Joe Brinser; County Clerk, Betty Spickard; Collector-treasurer, Barb Harris; Assessor, Kathy Veatch; Public Administrator, Jill Eaton;and Coroner, Dewayne Slater.
