Meadville received a gold emblem as a team. Members who earned individual gold ratings are Joel Martin, Miriam Martin, and Erin Shiflett with Tyler Dinsmore silver.
FFA chapters at Trenton, Jamesport, Chillicothe, and Milan received three star national chapter awards.
Missouri has two individual winners of national FFA proficiency awards given in 49 categories. John Schenkel of the Northwest Technical FFA at Maryville took the nations' top prize in grain production entrepreneurship. Benjamin Niendick of the Wellington-Napoleon chapter won a national proficiency award in ag sales entrepreneurship.
A member of the Milan FFA chapter, Mason Clark, was a national finalist in ag mechanics energy systems. The nations' top honor in that category went to a South Dakota FFA member. Missouri had seven national finalists in proficiencies.
A member of the Keytesville FFA chapter, Tyler Linneman, was among four persons across the U-S nominated for the National FFA Star Farmer award. A person from Illinois won the top award.
Six new national officers were elected for the 2013-14 year. One of them, Steven Brockshus attends Iowa State University and is from Sibley in northwest Iowa. He was chosen central region vice president. Other national officers are from Virginia, Tennessee. West Virginia, Alabama, and Oregon. Other ceremonies on Saturday included the presentation of the American FFA degree—the highest individual honor that can be given to an FFA member. Our list of local and area reciepients was announced on newscasts during the past week.
