| High School Holiday Hoops will return to the North Central Missouri College campus for the 9th consecutive year and promises to be bigger and better than ever. |
The 2013 edition of Holiday Hoops will feature 47 high schools, as well as 87 teams from across Missouri and offer the public 10 days of exciting high school basketball – all on the local college campus. Dates for the event are December 20-21, December 23, December 26-28, December 30-31 and January 2-3, 2014.
New schools contracted to compete include Bevier, King City, Knob Noster, Mound City, North Platte of Dearborn, Pattonsburg, and Plattsburg with the Lawson boys joining their girls for the first time at Hoops as well as the Lathrop girls participating with their boys who will return for the 2013 event.
Steve Maxey, Hoops coordinator says the annual event is managed by a fourtee member steering committee and they are looking at additional involvement this year from corporate partners making each day a special day hosted by regional businesses. This will include the addition of prize drawings, special entertainment and added income to support the growing program - above and beyond some great basketball.
Additionally, the committee continues to entertain first time schools that offer exciting play by their ball clubs and increase the marketability of NCMC to prospective students looking for a great place to start their post high school education. Maxey went on to say that contracts are already being extended for the 2014 shoot-out, the 10th anniversary of the event.
To continue to make “Hoops” a success, hundreds of volunteers will once again be needed and recruitment has begun for persons to assist with team hosting, managing the scorebook and game clock, gate volunteers and hospitality.
Now the largest high school holiday basketball event in the entire state, Holiday Hoops is sponsored by the NCMC Foundation, is sanctioned by the Missouri State High School Activities Association and relies on many individuals and businesses to finance this big event. Trenton High School serves as the liason between the college foundation and MSHSAA for sanctioning purposes.
