Wolverine senior pitcher Katie Applegarth was the story of the title game, shutting out Westran in a six-strikeout, four-hit performance. Kristin Strong led the Maysville offense, scoring the first run of the game in the third inning, while picking up one of the four hits on the day for the Wolverines.

In the third inning, Strong led off with an infield single, and advanced to third base on a base hit by Leslie Cook. Cook took second base on the throw into the infield. Strong scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jade Hahn, with Cook moving to third. Rachel Boucher drove in Cook on a grounder to shortstop.

Westran threatened against Applegarth in the sixth inning, putting two of base, but Maysville escaped the jam courtesy of a grounder to short. Westran led off the seventh with a double, but the next three Hornets went down, setting off the Lady Wolverines celebration.

Maysville finishes the season with eight straight wins, a 19-6 record, and the second GIRL'S state championship (first in softball) in MHS history. Westran ends the season with a record of 23-6, falling short of the program's fourth state championship. Walnut Grove won the Class 1 third place game over New Franklin, 13-3. In Friday's semifinals, Maysville beat New Franklin, 4-3 in nine innings while Westran doubled up Walnut Grove, 6-3.

Maysville is not the only school in northwest Missouri bringing home championship hardware. The Golden Eagles of Bishop LeBlond won the first-ever state softball championship in the history of their St. Joseph school, winning the Class 2 state title over South Callaway, 8-6. LeBlond had an 8-0 lead through four innings, and had to hold off a hard-charging South Callaway team late. LeBlond won their state semifinal over Marionville 9-1, with South Callaway shutting out Kelly 2-0. Marionville beat Kelly for third place 4-3.

In Class 3, Centralia repeated as state champions with a 9-2 blasting of Jefferson City Blair Oaks in Saturday's title game. The Lady Panthers beat Harrisonville in Friday's state semifinal 3-0, while Blair Oaks blasted DeSoto 10-1. DeSoto won third place over Harrisonville by a score of 5-1.

Lee's Summit won the Class 4 state title over Webb City 7-1. On Friday, Webb City beat Eureka (in nine innings) 1-0, with Lee's Summit downing Parkway North 3-1. Parkway North won third place over Eureka 10-0.
