|Trenton Rotary Club members were the first to hear a new initiative involving Trenton Police Department, city councilmen, and citizens of Trenton. Chief Tommy Wright used the occasion to introduce a program called “Trenton’s Great Neighbors.”|
The premise, he said, is for residents to get to know their neighbors.
The new program takes some of the philosophical elements of the better known “Neighborhood Watch”; but without any memberships or duties. There’s also no cost for the Great Neighbors Program. While Chief Wright plans to announce details in the near future, he told the Rotarians that Great Neighbors will feature police andcity councilmen hosting public meetings in each of four wards of Trenton.
Crime prevention classes also are to be offered.
Chief Wright also provided copies of the Trenton Police Great Neighbors Program commitment contract involving community members in partnership with their neighbors, city council persons, and Trenton Police. The commitment is to learn about crime prevention, applying those lessons to help protect their neighborhood from criminal activity, and report all suspicious activity to police.
Chief Wright also spoke briefly about the citizens’ academy. It involved 15 persons who heard about all facets of police work including a ride-along with officers on patrol in Trenton.
