Princeton Rallies to District 15 Softball Championship

Despite trailing early in the Class 1, District 15 championship game on Saturday afternoon in Eagleville, the Princeton Lady Tigers, on a strength of a six-run rally in the fourth inning, downed North Harrison 13-7, moving into the Missouri state playoffs and a Wednesday night home date with Jefferson.

The Lady Shamrocks held leads of 4-2 after one inning and 5-3 after 3, before the Lady Tigers grabbed the lead for good in the top of the fourth North Harrison shaved the lead down to 9-7 with a fifth inning run, only to see Princeton's bats put two runs on the board to clinch the game in the top of the sixth and top of the seventh innings.

Princeton's Kelsey Batson led the Lady Tigers charges was three RBI's and a run scored, Rachelle Parks scored four runs with an RBI, while Kianna Kinnison and Ashton Summers BOTH drove in two runs and scored a run. Princeton Head Coach Chrystal Mayfield called the Lady Tigers performance, "The best game we've played all year (even missing our shortstop)."

Chelsie Jones scuffled through the early innings, but picked up the Princeton win, throwing the complete game seven innings, giving up six earned runs, on six hits, with two walks and four strikeouts. Princeton had 16 hits in the contest.

Wednesday night's game at Gentry Field in Princeton will start at 6 o'clock, with pregame at 5:45 on KTTN FM 92.3 and www.kttn.com. Jefferson advanced into the state playoffs with a 4-3 win over Stanberry in the District 16 title game.

In other softball district finals from Saturday:

Smithville defeated Savannah 4-3, advancing the Lady Warriors into a Wednesday night first-round playoff game at Cameron (Class 3). In Class Two, defending state runner-up Brookfield returned to the playoffs with a dominating win over the Penney Lady Hornets, in Hamilton, by a score of 9-1. Brookfield will host LeBlond on Wednesday night at 6 o'clock. LeBlond won the District 16 title over North Platte, 2-1.

In Class One, Polo edged Norborne 1-0, and Maysville drilled King City 10-3. In an all-GRC state sectional on Wednesday night, Maysville will play AT POLO. Southwest Livingston beat Meadville in a district final 12-6, while Westran edged Salisbury 5-4. Westran will host Southwest Livingston on Wednesday afternoon at 5 o'clock.
