Serious Injury Accident On I-35 Near Cameron

The Highway Patrol reports an elderly Cameron woman received serious injuries near Cameron after attempting to turn onto an Interstate 35 emergency crossover.

89-year old Lula Curtis of Cameron was taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center at St. Joseph.

The accident occurred late Wednesday morning north of Cameron on Northbound Interstate 35.

The patrol reported both vehicles were northbound on I-35 when Ms. Curtis attempted to turn onto an emergency gravel crossover. After the truck hit the car from behind, the car spun into the median. The truck came to rest on a controlled stop on the right shoulder of northbound I-35.

The car was demolished. The tractor trailer unit received moderate damage.

The truck driver, 60-year old Joseph Roland of Cedar Point, Kansas was not reported hurt.

The patrol reports Roland was wearing a seatbelt, but Ms. Curtis was not using a safety device.
