|While not pretty, the Kansas City Chiefs were effective in grabbing their fifth victory in as many games this season, grinding out a 26-17 victory in rainy Nashville over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday afternoon.|
Jamaal Charles scored the go-ahead touchdown on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter for the Chiefs, who coughed up a 13-0 first-half lead, before rallying for the victory late. Marcus Cooper opened the scoring in the first quarter, recovering a muffed punt in the end zone for Kansas City.
On the day, Charles had 108 yards rushing and quarterback Alex Smith 245 yards passing for the Chiefs, who remain tied with Denver atop the AFC Western Division standings at 5-0. Denver won a high-scoring affair against Dallas on Sunday afternoon, 51-48.
Kansas City's defense intercepted Titans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick twice. Fitzpatrick was starting for Jake Locker, ruled out for the game with a sprained hip. An unsung hero for the Chiefs was Ryan Succop, with the South Carolina product drilling four field goals in the win.
The Chiefs, now returning home for three straight games at Arrowhead Stadium (against Oakland, Houston, and Cleveland), are 5-0 for the first time since starting 9-0 in 2003.
