Solid Waste Collection Scheduled For Area Residents

Residents of Grundy and Putnam Counties can dispose of tires, appliances, electronics, scrap metal, household hazardous waste, batteries, cell phones and ink cartridges during collections at Trenton and Unionville.

The City of Unionville and Putnam County sponsor a solid waste collection event Saturday morning from 9 until Noon at the City street shed in Unionville . The location in Unionville is 306 South 27th Street. Again, that's Saturday morning, October 5th at Unionville.

The City of Trenton and Grundy County sponsor a solid waste collection the morning of Saturday, October 12th, from 9 until Noon. The location is 807 East 7th Street at Trenton. That's near 7th and Kavanaugh.

The 2 collections are in conjunction with the North Missouri Solid Waste Management District. They're funded by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. They allow the public to dispose of items banned from landfills. The Solid Waste Management District says it's for residences only. No business nor commercial drop offs will be allowed.

4 standard passenger tires from each licensed driver will be accepted at no charge. Each additional standard passenger tire or smaller, will be accepted at $1 each. Tires 36 inches and greater will be accepted at $4 each. Tractor tires can be turned in for $10each.

Tires must have no rims, be clean, and free of debris.

Appliances will be accepted for $5 each. They include washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, ranges, ovens, microwaves, freezers, refrigerators, air conditioners, and
hot water heaters. Refrigerants will be removed by certified technicians prior to disposal.

Scrap metal will be accepted free of charge.

In the area of electronics, computer systems including the mouse and keyboard, copy machines, printers, and fax machines will be accepted for $5. Televisions will be accepted for $10.

There's no charge for miscellaneous electronics including stereos and telephones. All electronic waste is to be de-manufactured and recycled. The North Missouri Solid Waste Management District says all hard drives will be destroyed.

Batteries,including household, rechargeable, and intact car batteries, cell phones and ink cartridges will be accepted at no charge. The ink cartridges should not have broken or cracked cases.

Household hazardous waste must be in the original container and not leaking. Paint, oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, aerosols, herbicides, and pesticides will be collected. They should be household chemicals. Donations will be accepted to get rid of the household hazardous waste.

The North Missouri Solid Waste Management District says waste from commercial generators and businesses will not be accepted. Toxic or medical waste, joint compounds, empty paint cans, and mixed waste also will not be accepted.

Again, the solid waste collection for Putnam County residents is tomorrow (Saturday) morning from 9 until Noon at the Unionville City shed at 306 South 27th Street—near Bob's Food Mart.

The Solid Waste Collection for Grundy County residents is October 12th from 9 until Noon at 807 East 7th Street in Trenton, which once was the site of a Maggie's Mess store.
