|Land in southern Chariton County has been sold at public auction, reportedly for over 15 thousand dollars per acre. |
The 140 acre Monning farm, located not far from the north bank of the Missouri River, is thought to be the richest farm ground in one of the state's most productive bottoms.
Iman Auction Company of Salisbury was hired to conduct the auction.
Having sold some of the highest priced farm ground in Missouri over the last two years, Ben Iman, the company's owner and auctioneer, said he was aware that the farm might eclipse the previous high of $14,500 per acre that had been
accomplished just a year earlier, not far from the Monnig farm.
Bidding on this tract opened at $500,000, with the next bid jumping to $750,000. Within a matter of minutes the bid was over $1,000,000.
After a brief recess, bidding re-opened and climaxed at $1,100,000.
That figures to $15,714 per acre. The buyers are brothers Mike and David Brand.
