Two Chosen To Receive Awards

|The Mizzou Alumni Association has announced that a state representative from northwest Missouri and the M-U chancellor, are going to receive 2013 Henry Geyer public service awards. |
State Representative Mike Thomson and MU Chancellor Brady Deaton have been chosen by the Mizzou Alumni.
Thomson is receiving the award in recognition of his continued efforts supporting higher education public policy. Deaton is to be recognized for his career of distinguished service to the university and as a leader in higher education public policy.
Thomson, a Republican, represents District 1 in the Missouri House of Representatives which includes Atchison, Holt, Nodaway and Worth Counties.
He and his wife, Nancy, reside in Maryville and have two married daughters and four grandchildren. Thomson was elected to serve in the Missouri House in 2006 and currently serves as chairman of the Higher Education Committee and Joint Committee on Education.
Chancellor Brady Deaton has served as chief executive officer of the University of Missouri since 2004, having previously served as provost, deputy chancellor and chief of staff.
He and his wife, Anne, are parents of four grown children, three of whom are MU alumni, and grandparents of seven grandchildren.
