Missouri Day Opening Ceremonies

Opening ceremonies have been announced for this years’ Missouri Day Festival Thursday, October 17th at the First Baptist Church.

The 7 pm event will be preceded by a soup supper in the church basement from 4:30 until 6:30. The supper is sponsored by the Trenton Ministerial Alliance.

“Honoring Our Agricultural Heritage” is the theme of this year’s festival. Opening ceremonies start with presentation of the colors by local Boy Scouts. Elizabeth Gibson will sing “The Star Spangled Banner”. Sharon Jaharus of the Foursquare Church at Trenton will give the invocation.

Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce President Debbie Carman will give the welcome and make introductions. Grand marshals of the parade, current and past members of the Trenton and Grundy R-5 FFA Chapters, will be recognized. Current Trenton R-9 FFA advisor Kabel Oaks, who is an alumnus of Grundy R-5 FFA, will be the guest speaker. Several contest winners will be recognized. These include coloring/drawing contest, yard decorating, window and entryway decorating and hay bale decorating.

Following the opening ceremonies, members of the Trenton High School Choir present a fall concert.

The Missouri Day Festival events for October 18th through 20th include a big parade, a marching band festival, an atlatl tournament, a flea market, a tractor show at Orschlen Farm and Home Supply, a quilt show at the old JC Penney building, a car show at Eastside Park, a chair auction at the First Christian Church, a dance at the North 65 Center and a 5K/10K run as well as numerous vendors and food booths.
