|The Princeton Lady Tigers have had a roller-coaster of emotions over the past 48 hours, rolling to a 12-0 win on Monday night against in-county rival North Mercer, before losing 1-0 in frustrating fashion on Tuesday night to the South Harrison Lady Bulldogs.|
The week started for Princeton on Thursday night, when they were able to get nearly three innings played at Polo, before rainfall caused the game to be called. The score is 1-0, with the remainder of the game to be played this coming Monday night, September 30th.
Monday, in Princeton's win against Mercer, the Lady Tigers scored early, and in bunches, rolling off five runs in the first and four in the second in cruising to the victory, called after the top of the fifth inning. Shaylee Henley had two hits, including a triple, two RBI's, and two runs scored for PHS, with Maddie Enright and Ashton Summers each scoring two runs, while Darcee Schwartzkopf had a double, three runs scored, and a pair of RBI's. Chelsie Jones pitched five innings of shutout, one-hit softball, striking out nine Lady Cardinals without issuing a walk.
Against South Harrison, the game in Princeton was scoreless until the Lady Bulldogs scored a single tally in the top of the sixth inning. That run proved to be the difference, in the 1-0 final score.
Taking the tough-luck loss for Princeton was Jones, who gave up five hits and a walk in striking out seven in seven innings of work.
Princeton was held to only two hits (a single by Rachelle Parks and a double by Kianna Kinnison). Princeton had two errors and South Harrison one during the game.
Princeton Coach Chrystal Mayfield praised the defensive work of catcher Kianna Kinnison, saying, "Kianna had an amazing game! She threw out a runner trying to steal and combined with Paige Phillips to throw a runner out at home in a first-and-third situation!"
Princeton's season record is now 6-5, while the Lady Tigers GRC mark drops to 2-4. The Lady Tigers will travel to Stanberry to battle the Lady Bulldogs on Thursday night at 5:30.
