|Workmanlike effort gave the Trenton JV Bulldogs a halftime lead over Higginsville on Monday night at C.F. Russell Stadium, while two explosive plays gave the Bulldogs breathing room in the second half, in a 26-12 victory for THS.|
Trenton opened the scoring with a 1 yard Logan Shuler touchdown run at the 5:03 mark of the first quarter, only to see Higginsville tie the game less than two minutes later, on a 40 yard pass connection between Hinton and Lamphier. The second quarter saw a return to the lead for the Bulldogs, with Austin Burkeybile finding the end zone on a 6 yard run. All PAT's failed in the first half, leaving the score at the break Trenton 12, Higginsville 6.
Higginsville had a long, time-consuming drive to start the third quarter, taking over seven minutes off the clock, but the Huskers were thwarted in their attempt for points, as Spencer Harris picked off a pass at the 8 yard line. On the ensuing drive, momentum swung squarely to the Bulldogs, as Jonathan Lamp broke loose around left end and took the pigskin 90 yards for the touchdown, coming with 52 seconds left in the third quarter. Colton Allen picked up the two-point conversion, making it 20-6 Trenton.
On Higginsville's next drive, Alex Davis picked off an errant Husker pass and raced 45 yards for the touchdown, good for a 26-6 advantage. Lamphier finished the scoring on a 5 yard run for the Huskers with 2:02 to go, making the final score 26-12.
Trenton's JV will next play on Monday night at 6 o'clock, traveling to Kansas City to take on the Pembroke Hill Raiders.
