The Trenton Lady Bulldog softball program comes into the 2012 fall season with what should be a pretty large level of motivation spurring them on, after going through an unbeaten run in 2011 that ended suddenly with losses in two of their last three games, including a district championship stunner against the Hamilton Lady Hornets.

Sports : Bethany native tosses no-hitter for Seattle Class A affiliate

2010 South Harrison High School graduate Jordan Shipers, a 21-year old ranked #11 in the Seattle Mariners prospect system, tossed a nine-inning no-hitter on Wednesday as the Class A Clinton LumberKings blew out the West Michigan Whitecaps, 10-0.

Sports : Lock Springs ATV racer injured in South Dakota accident

A Lock Springs woman, known for her A-T-V racing skills, was injured Friday afternoon while competing in a qualifying race in South Dakota. Twenty-two year old Bailey Shea Williams was taken to a hospital in Sioux Falls with injuries that a family member described as broken ribs, a punctured lung, and a left shoulder injury.

North Central Missouri College administrators have announced the hiring of Megan Cairns as the new women's softball coach at the Trenton two-year school, replacing Kristin Boyes, who resigned this spring after only one season at NCMC.

Sports : Gooseberry Festival hosts 5k and 10k events on Saturday

There were 144 participants in the Gooseberry Festival's Five and Ten Kilometer run and walk on Saturday morning in Trenton. Roberto Garcia of Trenton was the overall winner in the 10K run with a time of 37:51. He competed in the men's ages 20 to 25 division.

A Trenton athlete has been drafted by a major league baseball franchise. Austin Norris was taken in the 39th Round of last week's selections by the Philadelphia Phillies. (That was the FINAL pick of the 39th round).

Cortney Roberts, the daughter of Shelly Rinehart and Todd and Shelley Roberts, signed a letter of intent to play both softball and basketball at North Central Missouri College in Trenton, Lady Pirates Basketball Coach Jenni Croy announced. Roberts is a graduate of Southwest R-1 School at Ludlow.

The American Legion Post 25 Cardinals, on Wednesday night, beat Millhouse by a score of 4-1. Post 25 scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead. Millhouse scored in the top of the seventh for their only run in the game.

The Trenton High School girl's golf team will begin practice on Monday morning, August 6th from 8 to 10 o'clock at Riverside Country Club in Trenton. The Lady Bulldogs are the defending district champions, a goal reached two of the past three seasons. Coach Jeremy Austin says with a good group of girls returning, Trenton expects more success in 2012.

The St. Joseph News-Press had a conversation with Michaelis within the past few days in which the Lady Cardinal senior-to-be indicated that she would like to give a verbal commitment to a school "by the end of July".

Families and Friends of the Developmentally Disabled will provide transportation and supervision for area residents to attend a Royals/Cardinals game at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City on Sunday, June 24th. Game time is 1:10 that afternoon. The mini-buses will leave Friendship Place Apartments in Trenton at 9:00 that morning.

Sports : Stacy Center "Triathlon" scheduled for June 30th

The Stacy Center in Princeton will hold its annual triathlon on Saturday, June 30th. There are two age divisions ----- Under 15 and 15 and Older. The distances for youths under 15 are a 100 yard swim, a two mile bike ride, and a one mile run. The distances for adults are a 500 yard swim, a six mile bike ride, and a two mile run.

Eighty-one standout athletes have converged on North Central Missouri College in Trenton for the 2012 Lions All-Star Basketball Classic tonight and tomorrow (June 1st and 2nd). Four girls teams and four boys teams representing Lions Clubs from across northern Missouri will meet for a day of practice, tonight's awards banquet, and a total of eight games where an eventual champion will be crowned.

The featured speaker for next week’s awards banquet of the Lions All-Stars Basketball Classic is no stranger to the basketball court or to the Lions organization. Cori Elms graduated from Cameron High School in 1993 and that same year, she was selected to play in the Lions All-Star Basketball Classic. She not only played in that game, but her two free throws were the deciding factor in her team’s victory.

The North Central Missouri College Foundation has announced the establishment of athletic scholarships in memory of Mark and Rebekah Whiteaker, former Trenton residents. The $10,000 contribution will allow for four $500 scholarships each year, beginning with the 2012-2013 academic year.
