The HDC Conference's annual basketball tournament is underway, with four girls games and four boys games played on Saturday at North Mercer High School, with the Gilman City girls and boys each coming out victorious in their first games of the tournament.

The North Central Missouri College Lady Pirates played the first game of their weekend trip to south Florida on Friday night, losing by a score of 74-62 at Miami-Dade College in Miami, Florida.

The Milan Wildcats are even with their Tri-Rivers Conference records, with both the girl's and boy's basketball teams at 1-1, following losses at Scotland County High School on Friday night, heard LIVE on KTTN FM 92.3 and www.kttn.com.

Because of a student suicide at Plattsburg High School, the basketball games scheduled for Monday, December 10th at Trenton High School have been moved to accommodate funeral plans.

Playing against tough competition from the Jayhawk Community College Conference in Kansas last week, the North Central Missouri College women lost three games in a row, while the Pirate men lost twice (at Allen County and against nationally-ranked Barton County). On Tuesday night, in Lamoni, Iowa, NCMC was able to get back into the win column.

A 9-0 regular season finish and a second consecutive Tri-Rivers Conference championship have helped the Milan Wildcats into strong representation in the All-Northeast Missouri all-district football team announced by the Missouri Broadcasters and Sportswriters Association. The Trenton Middle School 'A' basketball teams claimed a pair of victories on Monday night against the South Harrison Bulldogs, in games played at the TMS gymnasium. Behind a 15 point, 14 rebound performance by Whitley Richman, the girls took a 30-6 win, moving to 5-2 on the season. The boys had 10 points and 8 rebounds from Spencer Harris in a 34-18 win, also improving to 5-2 on the campaign.

The Meadville Eagles are off to a strong start to the 2012-2013 basketball season, winning last week's Northwestern Invitational Basketball Tournament in Mendon, taking all three games by double digit final margins.

The Gallatin Bulldogs have repeated as Gallatin Invitiational Tournament boy's champions, using a strong third quarter performance on Saturday afternoon to race past the Trenton Bulldogs, in a 66-55 final, heard on Hot Country Z 101.7 and www.kgozfm.com.

The Trenton High School wrestling team, on Thursday night, beat Southwest Livingston and Albany for its first triangular 'victory' of the 2012-2013 season. The Bulldogs scored 66 points in their win over the Ludlow team, and beat the host Warriors 40-32.

The Trenton girls and South Harrison boys basketball teams claimed victories on Friday night, in a high school basketball doubleheader broadcast LIVE on Hot Country Z 101.7 and www.kgozfm.com. The Trenton girls moved to 6-0 with a 69-39 win, while the South Harrison boys beat Trenton 78-58.

The Princeton Tigers played with energy and intensity, but could not find a way to slow down North Mercer's group of senior basketball standouts, with the visiting Cardinals winning at Princeton on Thursday night, in girl's and boy's varsity basketball games heard live on KTTN FM 92.3 and www.kttn.com.

The Trenton High School wrestling team defeated Gallatin 48-36 but lost to South Harrison 29-28 on Tuesday night, as part of a very competitive triangular between the three rival schools at Gallatin High School. The Trenton Bulldogs swept a basketball doubleheader on Tuesday night against the Princeton Tigers, controlling both games throughout and getting 'running clock's' by the fourth quarter, with the Trenton girls cruising to a 73-21 win, with the boys taking a 66-29 victory.

The Penney High School boy's basketball team came up short against Plattsburg on Monday night in the consolation semifinals of the KCI Conference Basketball Tournament in Lawson, bowing out of the event with an 0-2 record.

Trenton High School wrestlers Carlos Gonzalez, Mason Mounce, and Jacob Spillman all placed first in the Marceline Tournament on Saturday. Each of the three was unbeaten in their weight class in the "A" pool. Gonzalez was 4-0 at 106 pounds, including a victory over a defending state champion.

The North Central Missouri College basketball teams continue to struggle on the road in the state of Kansas, losing a pair of games on Friday afternoon at the Highland Classic, with the men falling to Barton County by a final of 83-51, while the Lady Pirates fell to the host Highland Scotties by a final score of 70-51.

The North Central Missouri College basketball teams had rematch games with the Red Devils of Allen County Community College on Wednesday night, with the results the same as the first meetings between the squads in Trenton, Allen County victories over the Pirate teams.
