Four games into the Region 16 portion of their 2012-2013 schedule, the North Central Missouri College Lady Pirates were winless, with home defeats against St. Louis, Penn Valley, and Cottey, and a road loss at Penn Valley. That run of frustration ended for NCMC on Wednesday night, with the Lady Pirates taking a 76-64 win against visiting Wentworth Military Academy. |

Missouri elementary, middle and home-school students have until March 8 to participate in the 2013 “Yes You CAN Make Missouri Litter-Free” trash-can-decorating contest. The annual contest is sponsored by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) as part of the state’s “No MOre Trash!” statewide litter prevention campaign.

The North Central Missouri College Lady Pirates, smarting after a mid-week loss to Cottey College at the Ketcham Community Center, were able to find some positive momentum on Sunday afternoon, traveling to Fayette and defeating the Central Methodist University JV squad by a final score of 93-59. |

Three people were hurt when, according to the Highway Patrol, a sport utility vehicle hit the rear of a pickup truck on Highway 36 in Linn County. The driver of the SUV, 57-year old William Sackrey of Brookfield, was taken by private vehicle to Pershing Memorial Hospital (in Brookfield) with what were described as minor injuries. |

The Highway Patrol says that two elderly Brookfield residents received SERIOUS injuries when a pickup truck traveled off Highway 139 north of Meadville, hitting highway signs and a bride. The driver, Rodley Sanders, and passenger, Margaret Sanders, both 89 years of age, were flown by medical helicopter to Truman Medical Center in Kansas City. |

The North Arkansas Pioneers survived a second half surge from North Central Missouri College and beat the Pirates on Saturday afternoon, 93-90 in overtime, to improve to 17-3 on the season. The victory is the second for North Arkansas against NCMC in 2013, with both games going extra time. |

Two Mooresville girls were hurt when a sport utility vehicle overturned off a road north of Ludlow on Thursday afternoon. The driver, 16-year old Brittany Twyman, and a passenger, 14-year old Shauna Hughes, were taken by private vehicle to Liberty Urgent Care in Liberty. The Highway Patrol said each person had MODERATE injuries. |

The Princeton Lady Tigers are playing some of the best basketball of any team in the region, winning their fifth game in a row on Tuesday night, 61-31 over the visiting Albany Lady Warriors, in Grand River Conference action from Princeton broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3 and www.kttn.com. The win improves Princeton's record to 12-10 on the season. |

Trenton Middle School students claimed the top two spots in the annual Grundy County Spelling Bee held yesterday (Tuesday). Winning the competition was Hannah Kennebeck, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Kennebeck. Second place (alternate) is Tanner Franklin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Franklin. |

Flames and Fires : Saturday morning fire damages Chillicothe house

Chillicothe firefighters report that an electrical fire caused moderate damage to the Tristan Biswell and Mike Brookman residence at 916 Broadway on Saturday morning. Firefighters responded to the single-story house to find heavy smoke showing from the structure. All occupants were OUT of the house upon the fire department's arrival. |

Four Hamilton residents were hurt when a sport utility vehicle slid off a road south of Gallatin and overturned multiple times. The driver, 34-year old Sarah McBee, was taken to Liberty Hospital with what the Highway Patrol described as SERIOUS injuries. A passenger, 13-year old Haley Neill, was taken to Liberty Hospital with MODERATE injuries. |

A Novinger woman was killed when the SUV she was driving overturned into a creek southwest of Novinger. Sixty-seven year old Patricia Borrok of Novinger was pronounced dead at the scene. |

The Princeton girls and boys, in Friday night hoops action broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3 and 'Internet TV', split a pair of varsity games at Worth County High School. The Princeton girls won the opener, 57-49, with the Worth County boys rallying in the fourth quarter to take the nightcap, 65-57. |

The Midland Empire Conference is known across northwest Missouri as a 'big school conference that plays physical, defensive-minded basketball'. Never was that mindset more on display than on Saturday afternoon at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton, where the St. Joseph Lafayette girls took out the state-ranked Trenton Lady Bulldogs, 36-21. |

There is a boil advisory for water customers in the southern part of Spickard. Affected are customers south of Pine Street. The precautionary boil advisory, for drinking and cooking water, is in effect until late Sunday morning. |
