The Penney High School girl's basketball team received a sparkling performance from senior guard Elsie Greenwood and a game-winning bank-shot from sophomore forward Morgan Prather on Friday night, with the Lady Hornets taking a 56-54 victory over previously unbeaten North Mercer in a Holiday Hoops girl's basketball game from the Ketcham Community Center, broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7 and www.kgozfm.com. |

Automobile Accidents : Sunday morning accident kills Sumner woman

A Sumner woman was killed, and a Brunswick man was SERIOUSLY injured, when a pickup truck overturned off a Chariton County road early Sunday morning. Pronounced dead at the scene was the driver, 34-year old Jessica Diehl of Sumner. A passenger, 42-year old Charles Lewis of Brunswick, was flown to University Hospital in Columbia, with injuries described as SERIOUS by the Highway Patrol. |

KTTN/KGOZ News : Spike strips credited with helping to end Livingston County police chase

The Livingston County Sheriff's Department said a spike strip was successfully deployed on Wednesday night, on Highway 36 east of Chillicothe, to slow an alleged stolen vehicle. The vehicle was stopped just west of Chillicothe a 'short time' after the spike strips were used. Twenty-five year old Vincente Soto of Kirksville was taken into custody without further incident. |

A Brookfield woman was hurt when the car she has driving traveled off U.S. Highway 63 in Macon County and hit a concrete culvert. Nineteen-year old Dana Ingram was taken by private vehicle to Samaritan Hospital in Macon, with what the Highway Patrol called MODERATE injuries. |

Auditions will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 7 at the Gary Dickinson Performing Arts Center in Chillicothe, for the Missoula Children's Theatre (MCT) performance of “Blackbeard the Pirate”, a program of the Chillicothe Area Arts Council. Students in kindergarten through 12th grade may audition.

The unbeaten and state-ranked Meadville Eagles played a dominant floor game, controlling the boards and hitting 10 three-point field goals as a team, in defeating North Mercer in a boy's basketball game on Wednesday night at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton, 69-45. |

The Foundation for Rural Service will award $2,000 scholarships to 30 rural high school seniors in 2013. Should a student from the service area of Grand River Mutual Telephone be chosen to receive one of the thirty scholarships, GRM will contribute an additional $500 to the scholarship. |

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs had ten days to stew over their first loss of the season, a one-point defeat against Marceline. On Friday night, the Lady Bulldogs took their frustrations out on the Lady Warriors of Warrenton High School, improving to 9-1 with a decisive 61-27 victory at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton. |

Health Advisories : Portion of Coleman Street, in Princeton, under a boil advisory

A precautionary boil water advisory has been issued at Princeton for a portion of Coleman Street. The advisory, for drinking and cooking water is from 900 Coleman Street and SOUTHWARD. The advisory is until further notice. Water in that area was shut off to repair a leaking fire hydrant. |

A Harrison County case charging an Eagleville woman in the death of her eight-month old daughter has been transferred to Grundy County on a change of venue. Twenty-three year old Nicole Lister of Eagleville is charged with second degree murder and child abuse, relating to incidents occurring in September. |

Three Marceline residents, in their 80's, were injured when an SUV overturned south of Marceline late Sunday morning. A passenger, 82-year old Leona Payne, received what the Highway Patrol called MODERATE injuries. The Patrol said the driver, 84-year old Eva Anderson, and another passenger, 87-year old Eva Beckstead had minor injuries. |

A Browning resident was injured in a Christmas DAY accident five miles west of Meadville. The Highway Patrol described injuries as SERIOUS for 45 year old Ernesto Constantino-Meza of Browning. He was taken by medical helicopter to Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. |
