Accidents : Saturday night accident near Utica injures three, driver charged with DWI

Three Chillicotheans were hurt late Saturday night near Utica when a car when off Highway 36 and came to rest in the median. Twenty-two year old Michael Lent, and 21-year old passengers Jesse Marshall and Richard Stimpson were taken to Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe, all with injuries described as MODERATE by the Highway Patrol.

A Gallatin resident was hurt in a weather-related accident when the pickup truck she was driving went through a T-intersection and overturned east of Gallatin. Sixteen-year old Kourtney Bird was taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph with what the Highway Patrol called MODERATE injuries.

The Friends of the Thompson House organization was allocated $250.00 towards renovations of the Thompson House, near Crowder State Park in western Grundy County. The Bethany Kiwanis Club was awarded $500.00. The money will be used to purchase clothing for needy children.

A house fire on Sunday night in Chillicothe caused what the Department of Emergency Services called "moderate" damage. Chillicothe firemen were called to 1437 McVey, the residence of Skyler Kline. The fire department said that when they arrived, the residents of the home where seen OUTSIDE the burning structure.

Basketball teams from Iowa and Missouri will face each other in the first annual Putnam County "Border War" tournament on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday nights of this week. Iowa schools participating are Albia, Centerville, Davis County, and Eddysville-Blakesburg. They will meet Missouri teams from Clark, Schuyler, and Putnam Counties over the three day event. Each of the Iowa squads will play one game during the week, while the Missouri teams will each play three games.

The Highway Patrol says a young Kearney man was injured when a car, going the wrong direction on Interstate 35, hit a guardrail south of Cameron early Sunday morning. Chillicothe High School student Madi Condron will be competing in a public speaking contest early in the month of December at a resort at Lake of the Ozarks. Miss Condron captured FIRST place in the Northwest District fall speech contest held earlier this month (November) in Cameron. She competed in the Farm Bureau's public speaking contest and has advanced to competition on Sunday, December 2nd at the annual meeting of the Missouri Farm Bureau Federation.

The Penney High School Hornets scored four touchdowns in less than six minutes of fourth quarter action, blowing open a tight game in St. Louis, as Hamilton won the Class 1 state championship game on Friday afternoon over the Valle Catholic Warriors by a score of 60-34. Hamilton's win gives the school its third state title in four years, with the Hornets having won the Class 1 state title in 2009, and the Class 2 crown in 2010.
