The North Central Missouri College basketball teams won games against JV competition on Wednesday night, with the Lady Pirates downing the Central Methodist JV 89-56 at the Ketcham Community Center, and the NCMC men winning in Marshall against the Missouri Valley JV, 85-73.

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs, after struggling for two quarters of play on Tuesday night at Chillicothe, exploded on the Lady Hornets in the third quarter to the tune of a 20-4 advantage, in a 53-41 win that moves the Lady Bulldogs to 14-1 on the season, going into next week's highly anticipated Hamilton Basketball Tournament.

The North Mercer girls and boys basketball teams won championships in the Milan Tournament on Saturday night, with the Lady Cardinals taking the Milan title for the FOURTH straight year, and the boys taking the first-place hardware for the first time since 2001.

The third-ranked Trenton Lady Bulldog basketball team was able to withstand a poor first-half against Princeton in Thursday night's semifinal, dominating the second half against the Lady Tigers in a 50-19 final, and then rolling past the host South Harrison Lady Bulldogs in Saturday night's championship game, 58-41.

The Trenton Bulldogs rode the shooting brilliance of senior guard Austin Taul to a South Harrison Tournament semifinal victory over Putnam County on Thursday night, 66-64 in a game broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3 and www.kttn.com.

Princeton sophomore Brant Faulkner led the Tigers with a dominant 40 point outing, as Princeton picked up its second victory of the season, downing Cainsville 69-43 in a South Harrison Tournament boy's consolation semifinal on Wednesday night in Bethany.

The North Central Missouri College basketball teams suffered a pair of losses in Kansas City on Wednesday night, with the Penn Valley Scouts sweeping the Region 16 openers between the rivals at the A. Fred Pohlman Fieldhouse.

The Trenton girls and boys basketball team each advanced into the South Harrison Basketball Tournament semifinals, with Monday evening victories in the quarterfinals of the tournament in Bethany.

The Trenton High School wrestling team placed fourth out of nine schools involved in Saturday's Butler High School Invitational. Athletes were divided into pools, with first place finishers from one pool meeting and first place finisher from the other pool. Second place finishers from each pool met, and so on, depending on pool placement.

In a women's basketball game that saw North Central Missouri College trail for the first 39 minutes plus of regulation, the Lady Pirates got a game-winning jump shot from freshman Samone Redditt with 45.6 seconds remaining and were able to hold on for a 65-63 victory against the visiting Moberly Greyhounds.

The Trenton High School wrestling team continues to show strong improvement through the early portion of January, defeating Marceline 41-23 on the road (on January 10th) before splitting a home triangular with the Polo Panthers and Brookfield Bulldogs on Tuesday, January 15th. The Trenton basketball games with Milan on Thursday, January 31st in Trenton will now be a TRIPLE-header, with a JV girls game at 5 o'clock, followed by a varsity girls, and varsity boys game. The JV girls, JV boys against Milan on Thursday, February 7th have been cancelled!

The Trenton wrestling team will HOST Brookfield and Polo in a Tuesday night triangular at Trenton High School, and comes into the competition with its best momentum of the season, after a 41-23 win at Marceline on Thursday night, January 10th.

The North Central Missouri College Lady Pirates bounced back nicely from last Wednesday night's loss at Penn Valley, going to Quincy, Illinois on Saturday and coming back home with a 62-55 victory over the Lady 'Blazers.

The North Mercer girls survived a strong test from Hannah Sanders and the Milan Lady Wildcats on Wednesday night, winning a Milan Tournament semifinal game by a final score of 63-50. The win pushes the second-ranked Lady Cardinals into Saturday night's championship game against the winner of Thursday night's Brookfield/Green City semifinal game.

In Elks District Hoop Shoot competition held Saturday in Cameron, Ashley Tolson of Trenton placed first in the girls ages 12 and 13 category to qualify for state competition.

The Milan Lady Wildcats, in a Milan Tournament quarterfinal game broadcast Monday evening on Hot Country Z 101.7, rolled past the Linn County Lady Mustangs by a score of 67-29, giving the Lady 'Cats a shot at the top-ranked, once-beaten North Mercer girls, who beat Novinger on Monday afternoon by a score of 82-21.

Maysville High School guard Skyler Zimmerman banked in a three point shot at the fourth quarter buzzer on Friday night, giving the visiting Wolverines a 60-59 victory over the Princeton Tigers, in the back-end of a Grand River Conference doubleheader broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3.

Just 24 hours after a decisive victory over Hardin-Central at NCMC Holiday Hoops, the North Mercer boy's basketball team returned to the floor, this time playing at Newtown-Harris in an HDC Conference contest on Thursday night.
