KTTN/KGOZ News : More school districts began classes on Wednesday

Opening day of school enrollments continue to be reported today (Wednesday) by several districts. Princeton reports 384 students, a drop by four when compared to 2011 Opening Day. Class size at Princeton ranges from 20 in third grade up to 41 in the sophomore class. There are 20 students in Princeton pre-school.

KTTN/KGOZ News : First day school enrollments down at Trenton R-9, up at Grundy R5

First day enrollment in the Trenton school district is down by 41 students when compared to last year. Grundy R-5's opening day enrollment is UP by 21 students when compared to a year ago.

KTTN/KGOZ News : NWS meteorologist talks drought, hope for rain

A meteorologist with the National Weather Service, in October 2011, told us that dry weather was expected to continue into 2012. In a recent interview with the PAR Broadcast Group, Evan Bookbinder admitted to not seeing conditions become this bad.

The Missouri State Fair celebrated Youth in Agriculture Day this past Saturday. The annual Sale of Champions was a highlight of the day in the raising of $119,900, which will be used to support Missouri youth involved in agriculture.

The Livingston County Sheriff's Department says a search of the jail in Chillicothe has resulted in the discovery of "potential weapons". One was described as hard plastic fashioned into a weapon, with the other a "quantity of wire".

A Greencastle man was injured on Friday afternoon when the motorcycle he was driving traveled off an Adair County road, throwing him off. Sixty-five year old Ralph Rose was taken to Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, with injuries described as 'MODERATE' by the Highway Patrol.

KTTN/KGOZ News : Four-wheeler accident injures two from Spickard

Two Spickard residents were flown by medical helicopter to Kansas City following a four-wheeler accident on Saturday night (August 11th) near Spickard. The Highway Patrol says that 47-year old Robert Blozvich Junior and Sue Thrasher (age unavailable) both received SERIOUS injuries, and were flown to St. Luke's Hospital.

KTTN/KGOZ News : U.S. 36 roadwork east of St. Joseph means smoother surface

Traffic on U.S. Highway 36 is no longer going head-to-head in Buchanan and DeKalb Counties, as of mid-afternoon Thursday. The Missouri Department of Transportation reports that this project is near completion. Westbound motorists will now experience a smoother five-mile section of Highway 36 in these two counties.

KTTN/KGOZ News : New security door in place at the Livingston County jail

A new sally-port security door has been installed at the Livingston County Jail in Chillicothe. The previous door was broken on the night of July 4th in the escape of two inmates. Inspection indicated the old door was not repairable and, according to Sheriff Steve Cox, would not consistently "lock down".

KTTN/KGOZ News : Unionville search warrant results in two arrests

Two Unionville residents have been arrested after a search of a home, near the Putnam County R-1 School buildings, led to the discovery of two methamphetamine labs, in addition to a handful of drugs, including meth, marijuana, and narcotic paraphernalia. Firearms and prescription pills were also found at the scene.

Authorities in Cameron are waiting for autopsy results to learn the cause of death of a Cameron man and two of his children found Friday at the man's residence. Although an investigation is continuing, the deaths are believed to be accidental. A fire around a cook stove in the kitchen of the residence also was believed to be accidental, according to Cameron Police Public Affairs Officer Heath Henry.

KTTN/KGOZ News : Kirksville plane crash injures Lee's Summit man

A small plane attempting to land at the Kirksville Regional Airport crashed on Monday afternoon, injuring the pilot, identified as a Lee's Summit man, Ted Bower. Bower, according to media reports, lost control of his plane in the process of landing, breaking the front landing gear. The plane skidded into a grassy area off the runway.

KTTN/KGOZ News : Livingston County authorities continue to deal with attempted jail escapes

Authorities in Livingston County are investigating an alleged attempt to escape from the jail in Chillicothe this week. On Sunday night, Sheriff Steve Cox says a male detainee "bolted" out of the cell area and down a hallway as a detention officer was about to lock down other detainees in that cell block. Locked security doors prevented the man from exiting that part of the building.
