News : Governor Nixon talks health care in Wright Memorial Hospital news conference

Governor Jay Nixon, speaking early on Friday afternoon at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton, said the Federal Affordable Health Care Act allows for an expansion of Medicaid to cover millions of Americans who can not afford health insurance. Nixon said, now that it is law, the choice is how to implement it to provide the greatest benefits for Missourians:

Sports : Grundy R-5 splits fifth place games at HDC Basketball Tournament

The Grundy R-5 boys won the consolation championship of the HDC Conference Basketball Tournament on Thursday night, defeating Pattonsburg by a final score of 67-47. Brody Hatcher led Grundy with 21 points, with Clayton Radcliff adding 20, and Mason Larson 15. Pattonsburg's Tyler Fore scored 18 points.

Accidents : Kansas City man injured in I-35 wreck, just north of Eagleville

On Interstate 35 north of Eagleville on Wednesday night, 21-year old Jayson Newlin of Kansas City suffered 'minor' injuries and was taken by ambulance to Harrison County Community Hospital in Bethany, after crashing his SUV in the northbound lanes.

Authorities in Livingston County are looking for at least one suspect stemming down an investigation into two recent home burglaries that allegedly occurred during the early morning hours while occupants were sleeping. One was northwest of Chillicothe and the other was inside Chillicothe's city limits.

A Bucklin resident was hurt, when according to the Highway Patrol, she swerved her car to miss an animal in the road, and the vehicle went into a ditch. Sixty-three year old Joyce Herriman of Bucklin was taken to Pershing Memorial Hospital in Brookfield, with injuries described as minor.

Very little information (as of Thursday morning) has been released by authorities concerning a fatal shooting that happened on Tuesday evening near Powersville, in Putnam County. The Putnam County Sheriff's Department is quoted as reporting the shooting claimed the life of eight-year old Rowdee Valentine.

Fires : Tuesday afternoon fire damages Trenton residence

Fire on Tuesday afternoon extensively damaged the John and Lacy Limkeman residence at 1427 Merrill in Trenton. Firefighter Jeremy Summers said most of the fire damage was on the first floor at the rear of the house. However, there was also damage on the second floor, and in the basement. In addition, there was smoke and heat damage throughout the structure.

The Grundy County Panther basketball teams each found the winners circle on Tuesday night, earning victories in the consolation semifinals of the HDC Conference's basketball tournament at North Mercer High School. The Grundy R-5 girls beat Cainsville, 53-48, with the Panther boys downing Gilman City by a final score of 53-36.

The North Mercer Cardinal basketball teams steamrolled their competition on Wednesday night in the semifinals of the HDC Conference Basketball Tournament being played in Mercer. The Lady Cardinals, in the first semifinal game of the night, beat Pattonsburg 76-29, with Sierra Michaelis scoring 33 points, Courtney Owens 17, and Hayley Sample 12 (on four three-point makes). Pattonsburg was led by Rheanna Gardner's 10 points, in falling into the third place game on Friday night.

The Director of the Missouri Division of Drug and Crime Control, Captain Sarah Eberhard, has announced the arrest of Glenn Head for the murder of William Bacon. On Tuesday, Missouri Highway Patrol troopers arrested the 59-year old Head for SECOND degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the death of 67-year old William Bacon of Novelty.

Fires : Items sought for victims of Chillicothe house fire

Donated items are being sought for a Chillicothe family who lost belongings in a fire at their residence on Monday night. The Chillicothe Fire Department says about 100 gallons of water and foam were used to extinguish smoldering embers in the attic and ceiling joists in the kitchen area at 104 East Second Street in Chillicothe.
