Grand River Mutual Telephone has announced the latest round of community improvement grant recipients. The Friends of the Thompson House organization was allocated $250.00 towards renovations of the Thompson House, near Crowder State Park in western Grundy County. The Bethany Kiwanis Club was awarded $500.00. The money will be used to purchase clothing for needy children.

The Highway Patrol says a pickup truck backing up from a parking space hit a pedestrian at a Casey's General Store in Brunswick on Saturday. Fifty-four year old Cynthia Smith of Boonville was taken by medical helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia with what the Highway Patrol called MODERATE injuries.

The House of Prayer rescue mission in Chillicothe will host a program called "Celebrate Christmas" the afternoon of Sunday, December 9th at 3 o'clock. Chillicothe High School student Madi Condron will be competing in a public speaking contest early in the month of December at a resort at Lake of the Ozarks. Miss Condron captured FIRST place in the Northwest District fall speech contest held earlier this month (November) in Cameron. She competed in the Farm Bureau's public speaking contest and has advanced to competition on Sunday, December 2nd at the annual meeting of the Missouri Farm Bureau Federation.

The Main Street Chillicothe organization is putting together an event this Wednesday evening in which young people can shop for Christmas gifts costing less than $15.00. All purchases will be gift-wrapped at no charge by representatives of Alpha Delta Rho chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. The children also will be able to create Christmas cards to accompany the gifts.
