Sports : Trenton wrestlers post triangular victory at Albany

The Trenton High School wrestling team, on Thursday night, beat Southwest Livingston and Albany for its first triangular 'victory' of the 2012-2013 season. The Bulldogs scored 66 points in their win over the Ludlow team, and beat the host Warriors 40-32.

The Trenton girls and South Harrison boys basketball teams claimed victories on Friday night, in a high school basketball doubleheader broadcast LIVE on Hot Country Z 101.7 and www.kgozfm.com. The Trenton girls moved to 6-0 with a 69-39 win, while the South Harrison boys beat Trenton 78-58.

The Trenton High School wrestling team defeated Gallatin 48-36 but lost to South Harrison 29-28 on Tuesday night, as part of a very competitive triangular between the three rival schools at Gallatin High School. The Trenton Middle School 'A' basketball teams claimed a pair of victories on Monday night against the South Harrison Bulldogs, in games played at the TMS gymnasium. Behind a 15 point, 14 rebound performance by Whitley Richman, the girls took a 30-6 win, moving to 5-2 on the season. The boys had 10 points and 8 rebounds from Spencer Harris in a 34-18 win, also improving to 5-2 on the campaign.

The Penney High School Hornets scored four touchdowns in less than six minutes of fourth quarter action, blowing open a tight game in St. Louis, as Hamilton won the Class 1 state championship game on Friday afternoon over the Valle Catholic Warriors by a score of 60-34. Hamilton's win gives the school its third state title in four years, with the Hornets having won the Class 1 state title in 2009, and the Class 2 crown in 2010.

Trenton High School wrestlers Carlos Gonzalez, Mason Mounce, and Jacob Spillman all placed first in the Marceline Tournament on Saturday. Each of the three was unbeaten in their weight class in the "A" pool. Gonzalez was 4-0 at 106 pounds, including a victory over a defending state champion.

Basketball teams from Iowa and Missouri will face each other in the first annual Putnam County "Border War" tournament on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday nights of this week. Iowa schools participating are Albia, Centerville, Davis County, and Eddysville-Blakesburg. They will meet Missouri teams from Clark, Schuyler, and Putnam Counties over the three day event. Each of the Iowa squads will play one game during the week, while the Missouri teams will each play three games.
