Sports : Chillicothe Finishes 1st, Trenton 2nd At Chillicothe Tennis Quad

The Chillicothe Lady Hornets won the Chillicothe Quad tennis tournament on Wednesday afternoon, outscoring Trenton, Carrollton, and Columbia Battle High School.

Chillicothe's Ali Stephens won the singles championship, defeating her teammate Sydnie Whiteside 10-8 in the title match.

The Trenton doubles team of Megan Derry and Alexis Fender won a THRILLING championship match over Kelly Westphal and Jozie Reeter of Chillicothe by a final score of 11-10. The tie-breaker to decide the title went 7-5 in favor of the Lady Bulldogs duo. Trenton's team of Alvynne Villacampa and Siara Bailey finished in fifth place, defeating Chillicothe's tandem of Chelsea Long and Therese Taylor 9-7 in the consolation final.

In earlier action involving Trenton, Derry and Fender beat Long and Taylor of Chillicothe (quarterfinals) 10-3, and beat Persinger and Stanley of Carrollton (semifinals) 10-4.

Villacampa and Bailey lost in the quarterfinals to Westphal and Reeter of Chillicothe 10-6, but rebounded with a consolation semifinal win over Tiffany and Storms of Columbia Battle 8-2.

Hannah Sowder of Trenton finished in fifth place, and Hannah Brinser of Trenton in sixth place in varsity singles competition, with Sowder beating Brinser 8-3 in that consolation final.

In the quarterfinals, Sowder was beaten by Chillicothe's Ali Stephens love-10, but rebounded in the consolation semifinals with an 8-2 win over Payne of Carrollton.

Brinser lost her quarterfinal, 1-10, to Schulte of Columbia Battle. Brinser beat Calicott of Carrollton 8-4 in the consolation semifinal, setting up the head-to-head battle with Sowder.

Trenton's JV doubles teams had a strong day, with Hannah Robinson and Megan Ellis beating their Lady Bulldog teammates Ashley Allen and Tristan Dugan in the championship match, 6-2.

Robinson and Ellis beat Mennace and Callahan of Chillicothe in the quarterfinals 6-3, and downed Devore and Key of Columbia Battle in the semifinals 6-4.

Allen and Dugan reached the title match with a quarterfinal win over Brunscher and McQueen of Carrollton 6-3, followed by a 6-4 win over Botts and Vonfossen of Chillicothe.

the Trenton tennis team travels to Cameron today (Tuesday), to take on the Lady Dragons in JV and varsity competition starting at 4 o'clock.
