Sports : Brookfield Wins Softball Showdown In Trenton, 4-1

The Brookfield Lady 'Dogs combined a strong offense with timely pitching from Sammy Overton, in beating the Trenton Lady Bulldogs 4-1 on Tuesday night at Johnson Field.

In a game heard on Hot Country Z 101.7, Overton and Trenton's Mallory Hooyman matched zero's on the scoreboard through three innings, with Overton escaping a bases-loaded, two out jam in the third inning by enducing an inning-ending pop-out.

Brookfield's bats led to runs in the top of the fourth inning, with Megan Kearns and Jacklyn Weydert (Wy-Dirt) scoring on a single by Karissa Trentham. Brookfield added to the lead in the top of the fifth inning, going up 3-0 as Kearns and Weydert doubled, with the latter driving in the third run. Trenton had another bases-loaded opportunity in the bottom of the fifth inning, but a fly ball to center field ended that rally.

Brookfield made the score 4-0 with a sixth inning run, as a bloop single by Bailey Parks drove in Gabrielle Corf. Down to their final out in the bottom of the seventh, Trenton rallied to get on the board, with Makaila Capeder singling, Madi Trump drawing a walk, and Megan Lynch driving in Capeder with a single. A pop-out to the Brookfield catcher ended the game. In the loss, Trenton left 10 runners stranded on base.

The win improves Brookfield's record to 7-3, with Trenton dropping to 3-1. The Trenton Lady Bulldogs will play next this Saturday, in the Lexington Tournament, with games scheduled in pool play against Odessa and Chillicothe, with further matchups to be determined from those results.

Brookfield is the defending Class 2 state runner-up, while Trenton, a program with great success over the past six years, reached the Class 3 state quarterfinals a year ago.

Trenton sophomore Daryian Otto dominated play in the JV game against Brookfield, pitching a five inning no-hitter and striking out eight. However, Brookfield managed to scrape across a run, tying Trenton 1-1.

For THS, Mason Hooyman was 1 for 2 with a double, and Katerina Black scored a run.

The Trenton MIDDLE SCHOOL softball teams opened their seasons AT Brookfield on Tuesday night, winning game #1 22-1 but falling in the second contest by a final score of 7-6.
