The Spickard R-2 Board of Education last evening held a hearing and then adopted the tax levy which is up by one and a half cents compared to last year.
The new levy is a little more than four dollars and 41 cents on the 100 dollars of assessed valuation. It was four-forty last year. The total assessed valuation in Grundy and Mercer counties for the Spickard district tops three point nine million dollars. That's up nearly 60 thousand dollars.
Also at the board of education meeting, concerning improvements to grounds, a bid from Dick Hoover Construction of Princeton was approved with the stipulations according to superintendent Mike Garrett, that the concrete be a minimum 6 bag mix, 4 foot tie in walls with a minimum of half inch rebar on 2 foot centers.
An Open House at Spickard school is today from 5:30 â€“ 7:00 pm. P-T-O will be providing pizza and drink.
The annual secretary of the board report was approved and submitted to the state.
Following an executive session to discuss personnel and students, it was announced the board will be hiring a special education paraprofessional for the current school year at Spickard.
