Jessica Machetta of Missourinet reports a Missouri judge issued a ruling today affecting plans by the former Rains Natural Meats of Gallatin. Her report indicates the Missouri location is not the only one being targeted by opponents of horse slaughtering.

The Associated Press is quoting the Springfield NewsLeader that Cole County Circuit Judge Daniel Green plans to hear a lawsuit filed against the Department of Natural Resources before the state allows a waste water permit for the business east of Gallatin.

Three opponents have sued D-N-R to block the permit which would let the facility, land-apply, waste-water from the processing facility. The lawsuit argues horses treated with a variety of drugs, then slaughtered, could be dangerous to human health.

Rains Natural Meats Vice President David Rains is quoted as planning to fight to overturn the judges' ruling.
